Surrealism or surrealism has developed in Europe between the first and second world wars. It takes its foundation from the works of the first dadaists who deny wisdom and work for counter-art. According to the poet Andre Breton, who prepared the "Manifeste du Surrealisme" in 1924, surrealism is a way of combining consciousness and unconsciousness. Surrealism is not an illusion, but rather an approach to the truth. For Andre Breton, who was influenced by Sigmund Freud's theories, unconsciousness was the main source of dreams, and genius had the ability to enter into this unconscious world. In addition to Breton, Louis Aragon, Benjamin Peret, experiments on automatic writing methods. With their own rhetoric, they began to "develop the imaginary world's imaginary, sexual, perverted imagery." Surrealism holds a preliminary plan with experimental research and emphasized that art is a guiding tool in self-analysis and analysis.

Gerçeküstücülük ya da sürrealizm, Avrupa'da birinci ve ikinci dünya savaşları arasında gelişmiştir. Temelini, akılcılığı yadsıyan ve karşı-sanat için çalışan ilk dadaistlerin eserlerinden alır. 1924'te "Manifeste du Surrealisme"i hazırlayan şair Andre Breton'a göre gerçeküstücülük,, bilinç ile bilinç dışını birleştiren bir yoldur. Gerçeküstücülük akımı, gerçek dışı anlamında değil aksine gerçeğin insandaki iz düşümü şeklinde bir yaklaşımdır. Sigmund Freud'un teorilerinden etkilenen Andre Breton için, bilinçdışılık düş gücünün temel kaynağı, deha ise bu bilinçdışı dünyasına girebilme yeteneğiydi. Breton’un yanı sıra Louis Aragon, Benjamen Peret, otomatik yazı yöntemleri üzerinde deneyler yaptılar. Kendi söylemleriyle, "gerçeküstü dünyanın düşsel, cinsel, sapkın imgelerini geliştirmeye" başladılar. Gerçeküstücülük, yöntemli bir araştırma ile deneyi ön planda tutuyor, insanın kendi kendisini irdeleyip çözümlemesinde sanatın yol gösterici bir araç olduğunu vurguluyordu.
