Aspergilosis
La aspergilosis es el nombre dado a una amplia variedad de enfermedades causadas por la infección por hongos del género Aspergillus. La mayoría de los casos ocurren en personas con enfermedades subyacentes tales como tuberculosis o enfermedad pulmonar obstructiva crónica, pero con sistemas inmunes sanos. Más comúnmente, la aspergilosis ocurre en forma de aspergilosis pulmonar crónica, aspergiloma o aspergilosis broncopulmonar alérgica. Algunas formas están entrelazadas; Por ejemplo ABPA y aspergiloma simple puede progresar a CPA. Otras manifestaciones no invasivas incluyen sinusitis fúngica, otomicosis, queratitis y onicomicosis. En la mayoría de los casos estos son menos graves, y curables con un tratamiento antimicótico eficaz. Las personas con sistemas inmunológicos deficientes -como pacientes sometidos a trasplante de células madre hematopoyéticas, quimioterapia para la leucemia o SIDA- corren el riesgo de una enfermedad más diseminada. La aspergilosis aguda invasiva ocurre cuando el sistema inmunológico no logra que las esporas de Aspergillus entren al torrente sanguíneo a través de los pulmones.
