Atelectasis
La atelectasia se define como el colapso o cierre del pulmón que resulta en un intercambio gaseoso reducido o ausente. Puede afectar una parte o la totalidad de un pulmón. Es una condición donde los alvéolos están desinflados, a diferencia de la consolidación pulmonar. Es un hallazgo muy común en radiografías de tórax y otros estudios radiológicos. Puede ser causada por exhalación normal o por varias condiciones médicas. Aunque frecuentemente se describe como un colapso del tejido pulmonar, atelectasia no es sinónimo de un neumotórax, que es una condición más específica que presenta atelectasia. La atelectasia aguda puede ocurrir como una complicación postoperatoria o como resultado de la deficiencia de surfactante. En neonatos prematuros, esto conduce al síndrome de dificultad respiratoria infantil.
