Boilover
Un tipo de incendio de tipo boilover se refiere a una situación extremadamente peligrosa donde se hace un intento de extinguir el aceite semi-cerrado o el fuego alimentado con petroquímica con agua. El peligro se debe a la diferencia de densidad entre el aceite y el agua. Boilover es también común en el hogar como un fuego de la cacerola de la viruta al cocinar. A medida que el agua se vierte sobre el combustible, se hunde rápidamente en el fondo del recipiente debido a la mayor densidad del agua, y tiene poco efecto en la extinción de las llamas en la superficie. El agua en el fondo se vaporiza rápidamente en vapor, causando que se expanda más de 1700 veces en volumen. El vapor que se expande rápidamente expulsa el aceite o combustible hacia arriba y hacia fuera del contenedor, dando como resultado la descarga de aceite ardiente sobre un área grande e incontrolada fuera del recipiente.
