Clima continental
El clima continental es un clima caracterizado por una importante variación anual de temperatura debido a la falta de cuerpos de agua cercanos. A menudo la temperatura invernal es lo suficientemente fría para soportar un período fijo de nieve cada año, y las precipitaciones relativamente moderadas ocurren principalmente en verano, aunque hay excepciones como las áreas de la costa este de América del Norte en Canadá que muestran una distribución uniforme de la precipitación. Se llama clima continental húmedo, pero también existen climas continentales secos. Regiones con un clima continental existen en porciones de los continentes del hemisferio norte, y en elevaciones más altas en otras partes del mundo. Sólo unas pocas áreas, en las montañas del noroeste del Pacífico de América del Norte y en Irán, el norte de Irak, Turquía adyacente, Afganistán, Pakistán y Asia Central muestran un máximo de invierno en la precipitación.
