QUÉ SIGNIFICA DIFFRACT EN INGLÉS

Difracción

Difracción se refiere a varios fenómenos que ocurren cuando una onda encuentra un obstáculo o una hendidura. En la física clásica, el fenómeno de difracción se describe como la interferencia de ondas según el principio de Huygens Fresnel. Estos comportamientos característicos se exhiben cuando una onda encuentra un obstáculo o una rendija que es comparable en tamaño a su longitud de onda. Efectos similares ocurren cuando una onda de luz viaja a través de un medio con un índice de refracción variable, o cuando una onda de sonido viaja a través de un medio con impedancia acústica variable. La difracción ocurre con todas las ondas, incluyendo ondas de sonido, ondas de agua y ondas electromagnéticas tales como luz visible, rayos X y ondas de radio. Dado que los objetos físicos tienen propiedades ondulatorias, la difracción también se produce con la materia y puede estudiarse de acuerdo con los principios de la mecánica cuántica. El científico italiano Francesco Maria Grimaldi acuñó la palabra "difracción" y fue el primero en registrar observaciones precisas del fenómeno en 1660.
