Enfermedad holandesa del olmo
La enfermedad holandesa del olmo es causada por un miembro de los hongos del saco que afectan a olmos, y es esparcida por el escarabajo de la corteza del olmo. Aunque se cree que es originaria de Asia, la enfermedad se ha introducido accidentalmente en América y Europa, donde ha devastado poblaciones nativas de olmos que no habían tenido la oportunidad de desarrollar resistencia a la enfermedad. El nombre "enfermedad del olmo holandés" se refiere a su identificación en 1921 y más tarde en los Países Bajos por los fitopatólogos holandeses Bea Schwarz y Christine Buisman que trabajaron con la profesora Johanna Westerdijk. La enfermedad no es específica del híbrido holandés del olmo.
