QUÉ SIGNIFICA ECOCIDE EN INGLÉS
Ecocide
El término ecocide se refiere a cualquier daño extenso o destrucción del paisaje natural y la interrupción o pérdida del ecosistema de un territorio dado a tal punto que la supervivencia de los habitantes de ese territorio está en peligro. Ecocide puede ser irreversible cuando un ecosistema sufre más allá de auto curación. Se asocia generalmente con daño causado por un agente vivo, directa o indirectamente. Un organismo puede infligir el ecocide directamente matando suficientes especies en un ecosistema para alterar su estructura y función. Ecocide también puede resultar de la contaminación como la introducción de altas concentraciones de pesticidas que destruyen la flora local extensivamente. Una definición más débil de ecocide es aquella en la que un organismo destruye ecosistemas distintos de los suyos propios. Por ejemplo, se podría decir que durante la era Precámbrico, las algas verde-azuladas cometieron ecocidio sobre la ecología predominante de la química reductora, liberando Oxígeno al medio ambiente. Los organismos en los que el oxígeno era un veneno se extinguieron, mientras que las algas y otros organismos se adaptaron y crearon una nueva ecología basada en la química de la oxidación.
