En lingüística, gapping es un tipo de elipsis que ocurre en los conjuntos no-iniciales de estructuras coordinadas. Gapping por lo general elides mínimamente un verbo finito y otros verbos no finitos que están presentes. Este material está "interrumpido" a partir de los conjuntos no iniciales de una estructura de coordenadas. Gapping existe en muchos idiomas, pero de ninguna manera en todos ellos, y gapping ha sido estudiado ampliamente y es por lo tanto uno de los mecanismos de elipsis más entendidos. Stripping se ve como una manifestación particular del mecanismo de gapping donde sólo un remanente aparece en el conjunto gapped / stripped.
