Inoculación

La inoculación fue un método histórico para la prevención de la viruela mediante la introducción deliberada en la piel de material de las pústulas de la viruela. Esto produjo generalmente una infección menos severa que la viruela naturalmente adquirida, pero todavía indujo inmunidad a ella. El término ingresó al inglés médico a través del uso hortícola, significando injertar un capullo de una planta a otra. Se deriva del latín en + oculus. Aunque la inoculación / inoculación a veces se ve, esto es incorrecto, posiblemente erróneamente pensado para estar relacionado con inocuo, que se deriva del latín en + nocuus.
