El Corpus Juris Civilis es el nombre moderno para una colección de obras fundamentales en la jurisprudencia, expedida de 529 a 534 por orden de Justiniano I, Emperador Romano Oriental. También se refiere a veces como el código de Justinian, aunque este nombre pertenece más correctamente a la parte titulada Codex Justinianus. El trabajo, como estaba previsto, tenía tres partes: el Código es una recopilación, por selección y extracción, de las leyes imperiales hasta la fecha; El Digest o Pandects es una enciclopedia compuesta principalmente de extractos breves de los escritos de los juristas romanos; Y los Institutos es un libro de texto para los estudiantes, introduciendo principalmente el Código aunque tiene importantes elementos conceptuales que están menos desarrollados en el Código o en el Digest.
