Maftir
Maftir se refiere apropiadamente a la última persona llamada a la Torá el Shabat ya las mañanas de los días festivos: esta persona también lee la porción haftará de una sección relacionada de los Nevi'im. Informalmente la porción de la Torá leída por o al maftir se llama la "porción maftir", o el "maftir" para el cortocircuito: en un Chumash la palabra "maftir" se imprime en el margen al principio de esa porción. En una mañana normal de Shabat, siete personas son formalmente llamadas a la Torá, y una parte de la porción de la Torá de la semana es leída por o para cada una de ellas. En estas ocasiones, el maftir es llamado por el nombre, seguido por la palabra "maftir", y la lectura del último rollo se le lee. En la mañana de Tisha b'Av y las tardes de día rápido, la porción maftir es la tercera sección de la porción.
