Mathura (pronunciación (ayuda · info)) es una ciudad en el estado indio del norte de Uttar Pradesh. Se encuentra a unos 50 kilómetros al norte de Agra y 145 kilómetros al sureste de Delhi; A unos 11 kilómetros de la ciudad de Vrindavan ya 22 kilómetros de Govardhan. Es el centro administrativo del distrito de Mathura de Uttar Pradesh. Durante el período antiguo, Mathura era un centro económico, situado en el cruce de importantes rutas de caravanas. El censo de 2011 de India estimó la población de Mathura a ser 441.894. Según las escrituras hindúes Mathura es el lugar de nacimiento del Señor Krishna en el centro de Braj o Brij-bhoomi, llamado Shri Krishna Janma-Bhoomi, literalmente: 'Lugar de nacimiento del Señor Krishna'.
