Miopía
Miopía (griego antiguo: μυωπία, muōpia, de myein "a shut" - ops (gen. Opos) "ojo"), comúnmente conocido como nearsighted (inglés americano) y miope (inglés británico), es una condición del ojo donde La luz que entra no se centra directamente en la retina, pero frente a ella, haciendo que la imagen que uno ve al mirar un objeto distante esté fuera de foco, pero enfocada al mirar un objeto cercano. Los profesionales del cuidado de la vista corrigen la miopía con mayor frecuencia mediante el uso de lentes correctoras, como anteojos o lentes de contacto. También puede ser corregido por la cirugía refractiva, aunque hay casos de efectos secundarios asociados. Las lentes correctivas tienen una potencia óptica negativa (es decir, tienen un efecto cóncavo neto) que compensa las dioptrías positivas excesivas del ojo miope. Las dioptrías negativas se utilizan generalmente para describir la gravedad de la miopía, ya que este es el valor de la lente para corregir el ojo. Miopía de alto grado, o miopía severa, se define como -6 dioptrías o peor. Lo opuesto a la miopía es la hipermetropía.
