Arctocephalus forsteri
Arctocephalus forsteri, también conocido como el lobo marino de Nueva Zelanda o el lobo marino del sur, es una especie de foca de piel que se encuentra alrededor de la costa sur de Australia, la costa de la Isla Sur de Nueva Zelanda y algunas de las islas pequeñas al sur y Al este de allí. Las colonias masculinas sólo están ubicadas en la costa del Estrecho de Cook de la Isla Norte cerca de Wellington y los vagabundos se encuentran tan al norte como Nueva Caledonia. El nombre común inglés New Zealand fur seal es usado por los hablantes de inglés en Nueva Zelanda, y el sello de pieles australiano por hablantes de inglés en Australia. Aunque las dos poblaciones muestran algunas diferencias genéticas, sus morfologías son muy similares, y por lo tanto siguen siendo clasificadas como una sola especie.
