Anticlinal
En la geología estructural, un anticlinal es un pliegue que es convexo y tiene sus camas más antiguas en su núcleo. El término no debe confundirse con antiform, que es un término puramente descriptivo para cualquier pliegue que sea convexo. Por lo tanto, si se desconocen las relaciones de edad entre los diferentes estratos, se debe usar el término antiforme. En un mapa geológico, los anticlíneos generalmente son reconocidos por una secuencia de capas de roca que son progresivamente más antiguas hacia el centro del pliegue debido a que el núcleo elevado del pliegue es erosionado preferentemente a un nivel estratigráfico más profundo en relación con los flancos topográficamente inferiores. Los estratos se apartan del centro o cresta del pliegue. Si un anticlinal se sumerge, los estratos superficiales formarán Vs que apuntan en la dirección de la inmersión. Anticlines son a menudo flanqueado por synclines aunque falling puede complicar y oscurecer la relación entre los dos. Los pliegues se forman a menudo durante la deformación de la corteza como resultado del acortamiento que acompaña la construcción orogénica de la montaña. En muchos casos, los anticlinales se forman por el movimiento en fallas no planas durante el acortamiento y la extensión, tales como anticlinales de rampa y anticlinal de vuelco.
