El fisitismo es la atribución de una forma física y atributos a las deidades, una práctica asociada con los antiguos griegos y en menor medida a los romanos. En la moderna teología judía y cristiana, el Dios abrahámico es considerado como un espíritu trascendente sin partes del cuerpo. " Dios también es descrito de una manera similar a una persona física en Génesis 3: 8, "Y oyeron la voz del SEÑOR Dios caminando en el huerto al fresco del día; y Adán y su esposa se ocultaron de la presencia de El SEÑOR Dios entre los árboles del huerto ". Tales versos aparentemente fisiológicos son una cuestión de controversia; Los primeros seguidores del gnosticismo los consideraban evidencia de que el dios judeocristiano era de hecho un demiurgo imperfecto, totalmente separado del Dios superior y trascendental.
