Representatividad heurística
La heurística de representatividad se usa al hacer juicios sobre la probabilidad de un evento bajo incertidumbre. Es uno de un grupo de heurísticas propuesto por los psicólogos Amos Tversky y Daniel Kahneman a principios de los años setenta. La heurística se describe como "atajos críticos que generalmente nos llevan a donde tenemos que ir - y rápidamente - pero a costa de enviarnos de vez en cuando por supuesto." Las heurísticas son útiles porque utilizan la reducción del esfuerzo y la simplificación en la toma de decisiones. Tversky y Kahneman definieron la representatividad como "el grado en que es similar en características esenciales a su población de padres, y refleja las características sobresalientes del proceso por el cual se genera". Cuando las personas confían en la representatividad para emitir juicios, es probable que juzguen erróneamente porque el hecho de que algo sea más representativo no lo hace más probable.
