Un rascador es una herramienta de mano usada en el trabajo del metal para marcar líneas en piezas de trabajo, antes del mecanizado. Se utiliza en lugar de lápices o líneas de tinta, porque las marcas son difíciles de ver, fácilmente borradas, e inexactas debido a su marca ancha; Las líneas de escriba son delgadas y semipermanentes. En las piezas de trabajo no recubiertas se utiliza comúnmente la marca azul para aumentar el contraste de las líneas de marcas. Son una varilla con una punta hecha de acero fundido que ha sido endurecido y templado. El punto se afila a un ángulo de 30 ó 40 grados. Algunos escribas tienen un punto en ambos extremos.
