Agujero de araña
Un agujero de la araña es el lenguaje militar para un camuflaje de un solo hombre, utilizado para la observación. Un agujero de la araña es típicamente un agujero profundo, protector, redondo del hombro, cubierto a menudo por una tapa camuflada, en el cual un soldado puede soportar y despedir un arma. Un agujero de la araña difiere de un foxhole en que un foxhole es generalmente más profundo y diseñado para acentuar la cubierta en vez de la ocultación. El término generalmente se entiende como una alusión al agujero camuflado construido por la araña trampilla. Según el historiador de los Cuerpos de Marines de los Estados Unidos, el comandante Chuck Melson, el término se originó en la Guerra Civil Estadounidense, cuando significaba un buitre apresurado. Los agujeros de araña fueron utilizados durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial por las fuerzas japonesas en muchos campos de batalla del Pacífico, incluyendo Leyte en Filipinas e Iwo Jima. Los llamaron "macetas de pulpo" por un parecido imaginario con las macetas usadas para capturar pulpos en Japón. Los combatientes comunistas vietnamitas también usaron agujeros de araña durante la guerra de Vietnam. El columnista estadounidense William Safire afirmó en el número del 15 de diciembre de 2003 del New York Times que el término se originó en la guerra de Vietnam.
