Terciario
Terciario es un viejo término no oficial, pero todavía ampliamente utilizado para un período geológico de 66 millones a 2,58 millones de años, un período de tiempo que se encuentra entre el período secundario reemplazado y el Cuaternario. El Terciario ya no es reconocido como una unidad formal por la Comisión Internacional de Estratigrafía, su tramo tradicional se divide entre los Períodos Paleógeno y Neógeno y la primera etapa del Pleistoceno de la Era Cenozoica. El período comenzó con la desaparición de los dinosaurios no aviares en el evento de extinción Cretácico-Paleógeno, al comienzo de la Era Cenozoica, y se extendió hasta el comienzo de la glaciación cuaternaria al final de la Época Pliocena. El Terciario también incluyó el Pleistoceno temprano.
