En la morfología lingüística, una transfix es un afijo discontinuo que se inserta en una raíz de la palabra, como en los sistemas de morfología de raíz y patrón, como los de muchas lenguas semíticas. Un afijo discontinuo es un afijo cuyos componentes fonéticos no son secuenciales dentro de una palabra, y en su lugar, se distribuyen entre o alrededor de los teléfonos que componen la raíz. La raíz de la palabra es a menudo una serie abstracta de tres consonantes, aunque las raíces únicas de la consonante, biliteral, y cuadriliteral existen. Un ejemplo de una raíz triconsonantal sería d-r-b en árabe, que se puede inflectir para crear formas como daraba 'batir' e idribunna 'batirlas'. Mientras que las raíces triconsonantal se consideran generalmente el estado más común, algunos lingüistas postulan que las raíces biliterales pueden de hecho ser el defecto, aunque por lo menos un erudito es escéptico de la legitimidad de estas demandas.
