En el este, Veracruz tiene una parte significativa de la costa del Golfo de México. El estado es conocido por sus poblaciones mixtas étnicas e indígenas. Su cocina refleja las muchas influencias culturales que han venido a través del estado debido a la importancia del puerto de Veracruz. Además de la capital, las ciudades más grandes del estado incluyen Veracruz, Coatzacoalcos, Córdoba, Minatitlán, Poza Rica, Boca del Río y Orizaba.
