Wigeon
Los wigeons son dabbling patos en el género Anas. Hay tres especies existentes: el gusano eurasiático, el gusano americano y el gusano de Chiloé. Una cuarta especie, el pato de la isla de Amsterdam, se cree que se han extinguido alrededor de 1800. Los tres son de forma similar, con una frente empinada y trasero bulboso a la cabeza. Los machos tienen un plumaje de reproducción distintivo, en su plumaje eclipse se parecen a las hembras, que son similares en apariencia durante todo el año. Los parientes más cercanos de las tres especies dentro del género Anas son el gadwall y el pato falciforme. Widgeon es una alternativa, aunque arcaica, ortografía. El cangrejo americano fue llamado antes el baldpate por los ornithologists, y alguna gente todavía utiliza ese nombre, especialmente cazadores.
