Draft - en el deporte de elegir nuevos jugadores para ligas profesionales, la mayoría de jugadores jóvenes, comenzando su carrera profesional. El borrador estándar se basa en el hecho de que del grupo de jugadores convocados para el equipo, un equipo selecciona uno. Cuando todos los equipos hacen una selección, la siguiente ronda tendrá lugar hasta que se alcance el número máximo de rondas especificado en las reglas del draft. Por ejemplo, hay 2 rondas en la NBA, pero 40 en la MLB. El orden de selección generalmente se basa en los resultados de la temporada anterior, y el primero en elegir los equipos más débiles. Una vez que el club ha terminado, los clubes tienen un tiempo definido para firmar los contratos con los jugadores. Si no lo hacen, pierden sus derechos. La prioridad para ganar un jugador es solo dentro de la liga, es decir, el jugador de baloncesto elegido en el draft de la NBA puede firmar fácilmente un contrato con el equipo de la Euroliga. El Draft se realiza una vez al año, antes de la nueva edición de la competencia, pero hay corrientes de aire durante la temporada.

Przykładowo, w lidze NBA odbywają się 2 rundy, ale w MLB jest ich 40. Kolejność wyboru ustalana jest najczęściej na podstawie wyników w poprzednim sezonie, a jako pierwsze wybierają najsłabsze ekipy. Po zakończeniu zaciągu kluby mają określony czas na podpisanie kontraktów z zawodnikami. Jeśli tego nie uczynią, tracą do nich prawa. Pierwszeństwo w pozyskaniu zawodnika obowiązuje tylko wewnątrz ligi, czyli koszykarz wybrany w drafcie NBA może bez przeszkód podpisać kontrakt np. z drużyną Euroligi. Draft odbywa się raz do roku, przed nową edycją rozgrywek, ale bywają drafty w trakcie sezonu.
