Moher - lana de cabra angora. El origen del nombre está en disputa. Por ejemplo, Wladyslaw Kopalinski da una etimología del flyjjar árabe. El Diccionario Colaborativo Internacional de Inglés también sugiere el origen de fr. moire - que recuerda al mármol. El lugar de origen del mohair se le da al Tíbet, pero también se conocen imágenes de Babilonia, que representan a las personas vestidas de una forma característica, lo que indica que pueden haber sido hechas de mohair. La producción de Mohair era conocida en Asia Menor. Las primeras cabras de Europa llegaron a Europa en 1554. Sin embargo, no desarrollaron sus perreras. A fines del siglo XVIII, se buscó llevar angora a Suecia, Venecia, Alemania e Inglaterra, pero sin éxito. Debido a la dificultad de obtener materia prima, las telas de mohair eran muy caras. Jako miejsce pochodzenia moheru podawany jest Tybet, ale znane są też wizerunki pochodzące z Babilonu, przedstawiające ludzi w ubraniach w sposób charakterystyczny zmechaconych, co wskazuje na to, że mogły być one wykonane z moheru. Produkcja moheru znana była w Azji Mniejszej. Do Europy pierwsze kozy angorskie dotarły w 1554. Nie udało się wtedy jednak rozwinąć ich hodowli. Z końcem XVIII w. próbowano sprowadzić kozy angorskie do Szwecji, Wenecji, Niemiec oraz Anglii, jednak bez sukcesu. W związku z trudnością ze zdobyciem surowca tkaniny moherowe były bardzo drogie. Jako przykład wskazujący na dużą ich wartość posłużyć może zapisek z Wiśnickiej księgi złoczyńców z XVII wieku, opisujący przypadki kradzieży moherowych sukni.
