Roman

Una narración larga y ficticia que cuenta la historia de una persona, o un grupo de personas, a través de su relación cronológica, lógica, emocional o artística con sus experiencias internas y externas. Es un tipo de escritura centrada en la persona que es mucho más larga que la historia. La historia de Genji de las obras maestras de la literatura japonesa es considerada la primera novela del mundo. Roman büyük oranda düzyazıyla yazılır ancak nazım da içerebilir. Anlatılan olaylar kahramanlık öyküleri değil, sıradan insanların günlük yaşantılarıdır. Anlatılan olaylar, kendinden önceki türler gibi yalnızca saraylar ve savaş alanları gibi destansı mekanlarda değil, genellikle sokaklar, evler, meyhaneler gibi sıradan mekanlarda geçer. Kullanılan dil, nazım türlerinde olduğu gibi ağdalı değil günlük ve sıradandır. Roman tarihe en bağlı edebiyat türüdür. Toplumsal, politik olaylar gelişmelerle de yakın ilişkidedir. Roman, felsefe ve sanattan boş inançları kovmak ve bunların yerine akıl ve gerçeği geçirmek isteyen bir kültürel dönüşümün ürünüdür.
