Antinomianisme
Dans le christianisme, un antinomien est «celui qui détient que, sous la dispense de la grâce de l'Évangile, la loi morale est inutile, parce que seule la foi est nécessaire au salut». Beaucoup d'antinomiens, cependant, croient que les chrétiens obéiront à la loi morale malgré leur absence. La distinction entre les antinomiens et les autres points de vue chrétiens sur la loi morale est que les antinomiens croient que l'obéissance à la loi est motivée par un principe interne découlant de la croyance plutôt que de toute contrainte externe. Le terme antinomianisme a émergé peu de temps après la Réforme protestante et a été historiquement utilisé comme un péjoratif contre les penseurs chrétiens ou les sectes qui ont porté leur croyance dans la justification par la foi plus loin que ce qui était habituel. L'antinomianisme dans les temps modernes est généralement considéré comme l'opposé théologique à la justice du Legalisme ou des Travaux, la notion selon laquelle l'obéissance à la loi religieuse gagne le salut. Cela rend l'antinomianisme une exagération de la justification par la foi seule. Les exemples sont la critique de Martin Luther sur l'antinomianisme et la controverse antinomienne de la colonie de la baie du Massachusetts du 17ème siècle.
