Alpes australiennes
Les Alpes australiennes, une biorégion IBRA, est la plus haute chaîne de montagnes en Australie. Cette gamme est située dans le sud-est de l'Australie, et elle s'étend à l'est de Victoria, au sud-est de la Nouvelle-Galles du Sud et au territoire de la capitale australienne. Les Alpes australiennes contiennent les seuls sommets de l'Australie dépassant 2 000 mètres d'élévation au-dessus du niveau de la mer. Les Alpes sont la seule biorégion sur le continent australien où les neiges profondes tombent chaque année. Les Alpes australiennes font partie de la Great Dividing Range, la série de montagnes, de collines et de hautes terres qui s'étend à environ 3 000 kilomètres du nord du Queensland, à travers la Nouvelle-Galles du Sud et dans le nord de Victoria. Cette chaîne de terres hautes divise le drainage des rivières qui s'écoulent vers l'est dans la mer de Tasman depuis celles qui s'écoulent vers l'ouest dans le drainage du bassin de Murray-Darling ou dans les eaux intérieures, comme le lac Eyre, qui se situe au-dessous du niveau de la mer ou Sinon évaporer rapidement. La Great Dividing Range atteint ses plus grands sommets dans les Alpes australiennes.
