Plume
Les plumes sont l'une des poussées épidermiques qui forment le revêtement extérieur distinctif, ou le plumage, sur les oiseaux et certains dinosaures Theropod non aviaires. Ils sont considérés comme les structures tétragumentaires les plus complexes trouvées chez les vertébrés, et en fait un exemple primordial d'une nouveauté évolutive complexe. Ils sont parmi les caractéristiques qui distinguent les Aves existants des autres groupes vivants. Des plumes ont également été remarquées dans ces Theropoda qui ont été appelés des dinosaures à plumes. Bien que les plumes couvrent la plupart des parties du corps des oiseaux, elles ne résultent que de certains traits bien définis sur la peau. Ils aident en vol, isolation thermique, imperméabilisation et coloration qui aident à la communication et à la protection.
