Chaldea ou Chaldæa (/ kældiːə /), du grec Χαλδαία, Chaldaia; Akkadian: māt Ḫaldu; Hébreu: כשדים, Kaśdim; L'araméen: ܟܠܕܘ, Kaldo) était une nation existant entre les siècles 10 et 6 av. J.-C., située dans la terre marécageuse du coin sud-est de la Mésopotamie, qui a dominé Babylone brièvement. Les tribus des migrants sémitiques qui sont arrivés dans la région du Levant au cours du Xe siècle av. J.-C. sont connues sous le nom de Chaldéens ou des Chaldees. La Bible hébraïque utilise le terme כשדים (Kaśdim) et cela est traduit en tant que chaldéens dans la Septante. La dynastie 11 de courte durée des rois de Babylone (6ème siècle av.
