Chiang Kai-shek
Chiang Kai-shek était un chef politique et militaire chinois qui a servi de chef de la République de Chine entre 1928 et 1975. Il est connu sous le nom de Jiang Jieshi ou Jiang Zhongzheng en chinois standard. Chiang était un membre influent du Kuomintang, le Parti nationaliste chinois, et était un proche allié de Sun Yat-sen. Il est devenu le Commandant de l'Académie Militaire du Kuomintang's Whampoa et a pris la place de Sun en tant que leader du KMT lorsque Sun est mort en 1925. En 1926, Chiang a mené l'expédition du Nord pour unifier le pays, devenant ainsi le leader nominal de la Chine. Il a été président du Conseil national militaire du gouvernement nationaliste de la République de Chine de 1928 à 1948. Chiang a mené la Chine dans la deuxième guerre sino-japonaise, consolidant le pouvoir des anciens seigneurs de guerre régionaux du parti. Contrairement à Sun Yat-sen, Chiang Kai-shek était socialement conservateur, promouvant la culture traditionnelle chinoise dans le New Life Movement et rejetant la démocratie occidentale et le socialisme démocratique nationaliste que Sun a embrassé en faveur d'un gouvernement autoritaire.
