Paliurus spina-christi
Paliurus spina-christi, communément appelé Jerusalem Thorn, Garland Thorn, Thorn du Christ, ou Crown of Thorns, est une espèce de Paliurus originaire de la région méditerranéenne et du sud-ouest et de l'Asie centrale, du Maroc et de l'Espagne à l'Est en Iran et au Tadjikistan. C'est un arbuste à feuilles caduques ou un petit arbre qui croît à 3-4 m de haut. Les pousses sont en zigzag, avec une feuille et deux épines stipulées à l'extérieur de chaque pli. Les feuilles sont ovales, de 2 à 5 cm de long et de 1 à 4 cm de large, de vert brillant, avec une marge entière. Le fruit est un nutlet à bois sec centré dans une aile circulaire de 2-3,5 cm de diamètre. Le nom reflète une vieille légende selon laquelle les branches épineuses ont été utilisées pour transformer la couronne d'épines sur la tête de Christ avant sa crucifixion. Il est considéré comme une curiosité ornementale et est cultivé dans certaines régions, répartis dans sa gamme, y compris les Fidji.
