Daphnis
Dans la mythologie grecque, Daphnis était un berger sicilien qui était considéré comme l'inventeur de la poésie pastorale. Selon la tradition, il était le fils d'Hermès et une nymphe, malgré le fait que Daphnis lui-même était mortel. Daphnis est également décrit et montré comme un eromenos. Sa mère aurait l'avoir exposé sous un laurier, où il a été trouvé par des bergers et nommé d'après l'arbre sous lequel il a été trouvé. Il a été parfois dit être Hermes préféré ou aimé plutôt que son fils. Une naiad était amoureuse de lui et a promis de lui être fidèle. Cependant, il a été séduite, à l'aide du vin, par la fille d'un roi, et, en vengeance, cette nymphe l'aveuglait ou l'avait mis en pierre. Pan est également tombé amoureux de lui et lui a appris à jouer les pan pipes. Daphnis était aussi le nom d'un membre du groupe des soeurs prophétiques, connu sous le nom de Thriae. La légende de Longus de Daphnis et Chloe décrit deux enfants qui grandissent ensemble et progressivement développent l'amour mutuel, finissant par se marier après de nombreuses aventures.
