Double négation
Dans la logique propositionnelle, la double négation est le théorème qui indique que «si une déclaration est vraie, il n'est pas vrai que l'affirmation n'est pas vraie». Cela s'exprime en disant qu'une proposition A est logiquement équivalente à non (pas-A) ou par la formule A ≡ ~ (~ A) où le signe ≡ exprime l'équivalence logique et le signe ~ exprime la négation. Comme la loi du milieu exclu, ce principe est considéré comme une loi de pensée dans la logique classique, mais elle est rejetée par la logique intuitionniste. Le principe a été énoncé comme théorème de la logique propositionnelle par Russell et Whitehead dans Principia Mathematica comme: "Ceci est le principe de la double négation, c'est-à-dire une proposition équivalente au mensonge de sa négation". Le début des contradictions des logiciens modernes (en particulier Leibnitz et Kant) dans la formule A n'est pas-A, diffère entièrement dans le sens et l'application de la proposition aristotélicienne. Ce dernier se réfère à la relation entre un jugement affirmatif et un jugement négatif. Selon Aristote, un jugement contredit un autre.
