Élision
Elision est l'omission d'un ou plusieurs sons en un mot ou une phrase, produisant un résultat qui est plus facile pour l'orateur de prononcer. Parfois, les sons peuvent être éliminés pour un effet euphonique. Dans l'anglais natif, l'élision vient naturellement, et elle est souvent décrite comme «bouleversée» ou «silencieuse». Souvent, l'élision est délibérée. C'est une idée fausse commune selon laquelle les contractions sont automatiquement qualifiées de mots élutiqués, qui proviennent de définitions lentes. Pas tous les mots élués sont des contractions et toutes les contractions ne sont pas des mots élutiqués. En français, l'élision est obligatoire dans certains contextes, comme dans la clause C'est la vie. En espagnol, l'élision se produit moins fréquemment, mais est fréquente dans certains dialectes. Il n'est jamais marqué par une apostrophe par écrit. Un intérêt particulier est le mot para, qui devient pa. Plusieurs mots peuvent être éliminés ensemble, comme dans pa trabajar pour para trabajar et pa ante ou même pa lante pour para adelante. Un exemple d'élision délibérée se produit dans la poésie latine comme un dispositif stylistique. Dans certaines circonstances, comme un mot se terminant par une voyelle et le mot suivant commençant par une voyelle, les mots peuvent être éliminés ensemble.
