Euphémisme
Un euphémisme est un mot ou une expression généralement inoffensif utilisé à la place de celui qui peut être trouvé offensant ou suggérer quelque chose de désagréable. Certains euphémismes sont destinés à divertir; Tandis que d'autres utilisent des termes insipides, inoffensifs et souvent trompeurs pour les choses que l'utilisateur souhaite dissimuler ou minimiser. Les églémites sont utilisés pour la dissimulation, pour se référer aux sujets tabous d'une manière polie et pour masquer les blasphèmes. L'opposé de l'euphémisme équivaut à peu près au dysphémisme. Les églises peuvent être utilisées pour éviter les mots considérés comme grossiers, tout en transmettant leur signification; Les mots peuvent être remplacés par des mots semblables, des mots plus doux ou des espaces réservés. Certains euphémismes ont été acceptés dans certaines sociétés pour des informations inconfortables; Par exemple, dans de nombreux pays anglophones, un médecin est susceptible de dire «le décès du patient» plutôt que «le patient est décédé». Un deuxième exemple concernant l'information inconfortable et la dissimulation d'un certain degré de vérité serait «nous mettons le chien à dormir» plutôt que «nous avons tué le chien». Les églémites peuvent être utilisés pour minimiser ou dissimuler des faits désagréables, tels que «dommages collatéraux» pour les «pertes civiles» dans un contexte militaire, ou «expurgés» pour «censurés».
