Francis Galton
Sir Francis Galton, FRS était un progressiste, un psychathologue, un anthropologue, un eugéniste, un explorateur tropical, un géographe, un inventeur, un météorologue, un proto-généticien, un psychologue et un statisticien. Il a été chevalier en 1909. Galton a produit plus de 340 articles et des livres. Il a également créé le concept statistique de corrélation et une régression grandement promue vers la moyenne. Il a été le premier à appliquer des méthodes statistiques à l'étude des différences humaines et à l'héritage de l'intelligence et a introduit l'utilisation de questionnaires et d'enquêtes pour la collecte de données sur les communautés humaines dont il avait besoin pour des travaux généalogiques et biographiques et pour ses études anthropométriques. Il a été un pionnier de l'eugénisme, en mettant en avant le terme lui-même et l'expression «nature contre nurture». Son livre, le génie héréditaire, fut la première tentative scientifique sociale d'étude du génie et de la grandeur. En tant que chercheur de l'esprit humain, il a fondé la psychométrie et la psychologie différentielle et l'hypothèse lexique de la personnalité. Il a conçu une méthode pour classer les empreintes digitales qui s'est avérée utile dans la science médico-légale.
