Hématite
L'hématite, également orthographiée en hématite, est la forme minérale de l'oxyde de fer, l'un des plusieurs oxydes de fer. L'hématite cristallise dans le système de réseau rhomboédrique, et elle a la même structure cristalline que l'ilménite et le corindon. L'hématite et l'ilmenite forment une solution solide complète à des températures supérieures à 950 ° C. L'hématite est un minéral, noir coloré en acier ou gris argenté, brun à brun rougeâtre ou rouge. Il est extrait comme principal minerai de fer. Les variétés comprennent le minerai de rein, la martite, la rose de fer et la spéculaire. Bien que les formes de l'hématite varient, elles ont toutes une tendance rouge rouillée. L'hématite est plus difficile que le fer pur, mais beaucoup plus fragile. La maghémite est un minéral d'oxyde lié à l'hématite et à la magnétite. Le minéral peut précipiter hors de l'eau et recueillir en couches au fond d'un lac, d'un ressort ou d'autres eaux stagnantes. L'hématite peut également se produire sans eau, mais généralement en raison de l'activité volcanique.
