Ankylostome
L'ankylostome est un nématode parasite qui vit dans l'intestin grêle de son hôte, qui peut être un mammifère tel qu'un chien, un chat ou un humain. Deux espèces d'ankylostomes infectent communément les humains, Ancylostoma duodenale et Necator americanus. A. duodenale prédomine au Moyen-Orient, en Afrique du Nord, en Inde et dans le sud de l'Europe, alors que N. americanus prédomine dans les Amériques, l'Afrique subsaharienne, l'Asie du Sud, la Chine et l'Indonésie. Les espèces A. braziliense et A. tubaeforme infectent les chats, tandis que A. caninum infecte les canines. Uncinaria stenocephala infecte les chiens et les chats. A. caninum a infecté des humains, avec 150 cas rapportés à Brisbane, en Australie, de 1988 à 1992. Les ankylostomes sont beaucoup plus petits que le glaçon rond géant, et les complications de la migration des tissus et de l'obstruction mécanique si fréquemment observées avec l'infestation par des os ronds sont moins fréquentes dans l'infestation par ankylostes. Le risque le plus important d'infection ankylostomie est l'anémie, secondaire à la perte de fer dans l'intestin. Les vers absorbent le sang voracement et endommagent la muqueuse. Cependant, la perte de sang dans les selles n'est pas visible visiblement.
