En biologie, le tégument est le recouvrement naturel d'un organisme ou d'un organe, comme sa peau, son coquille, son coquille ou son écorce. Il dérive de l'integumentum, qui signifie "une couverture" en latin. Dans un sens transféré ou figuré, cela pourrait signifier un manteau ou un déguisement. En anglais, le "tégument" est un mot assez moderne, dont l'origine remonte au début du dix-septième siècle. Cela peut signifier un matériau ou une couche avec lequel tout est enfermé, revêtu ou recouvert dans le sens de "plaqué" ou "enduit", comme avec une peau ou une coque.
