Latin médiéval
Le latin médiéval était la forme du latin utilisé au Moyen Âge, principalement comme un moyen d'échange scolaire et comme langue liturgique de l'Église catholique médiévale, mais aussi comme langue de la science, de la littérature, du droit et de l'administration. Malgré l'origine clérical de nombreux auteurs, le latin médiéval ne doit pas être confondu avec le latin ecclésiastique. Il n'y a pas de consensus réel sur la limite exacte où le latin tardif se termine et le latin médiéval commence. Certaines études savantes commencent par la montée du latin ecclésiastique précoce au milieu du IVe siècle, d'autres d'environ 500 et d'autres encore avec le remplacement du latin tardif écrit par des langues romanesques écrites commençant vers l'an 900.
