Pêche
La pêche est un arbre à feuilles caduques, originaire du nord-ouest de la Chine, dans la région entre le bassin de Tarim et les versants nord des montagnes Kunlun Shan, où il a été domestiqué et cultivé pour la première fois. Il porte un fruit juteux comestible appelé aussi une pêche. Le nom de l'espèce persica se réfère à sa culture répandue en Perse, d'où elle a été transplantée en Europe. Il appartient au genre Prunus qui comprend la cerise et la prune, dans la famille des rosacées. La pêche est classée avec l'amande dans le sous-genre Amygdalus, distingué des autres sous-genres par la coquille de graines ondulées. Les pêches et les nectarines sont la même espèce, même si elles sont considérées commercialement comme des fruits différents. Contrairement à la pêche dont les fruits présentent le fuzz caractéristique sur la peau, les nectarines sont caractérisées par l'absence de trichomes de la peau des fruits; Des études génétiques suggèrent que les nectarines sont produites en raison d'un allèle récessif, tandis que les pêches sont produites à partir d'un allèle dominant pour la peau floue. La Chine est le plus grand producteur mondial de pêches.
