Nomogramme
Un nomogramme, également appelé nomograph, tableau d'alignement ou abaque, est un dispositif de calcul graphique, un diagramme bidimensionnel conçu pour permettre le calcul graphique approximatif d'une fonction. Le domaine de la nomographie a été inventé en 1884 par l'ingénieur français Philbert Maurice d'Ocagne et utilisé depuis de nombreuses années pour fournir aux ingénieurs des calculs graphiques rapides de formules compliquées à une précision pratique. Les nomogrammes utilisent un système de coordonnées parallèles inventé par d'Ocagne plutôt que par des coordonnées cartésiennes standard. Un nomogramme se compose d'un ensemble de n échelles, un pour chaque variable dans une équation. Connaissant les valeurs des variables n-1, on peut trouver la valeur de la variable inconnue, ou en fixant les valeurs de certaines variables, on peut étudier la relation entre les non-fixés. Le résultat est obtenu en posant une règle sur les valeurs connues sur les échelles et en lisant la valeur inconnue d'où elle traverse l'échelle pour cette variable. La ligne virtuelle ou dessinée créée par la règle est appelée ligne d'index ou isopleth.
