Système numérique
Un système numérique est un système d'écriture pour l'expression de nombres, c'est-à-dire une notation mathématique pour représenter des nombres d'un ensemble donné, en utilisant des chiffres ou d'autres symboles de manière cohérente. Il peut être considéré comme le contexte qui permet d'interpréter les symboles «11» comme le symbole binaire pour trois, le symbole décimal pour onze ou un symbole pour d'autres nombres dans des bases différentes. Idéalement, un système numérique: ▪ représentera un ensemble de nombres utiles ▪ donnera à chaque nombre une représentation unique ▪ reflète la structure algébrique et arithmétique des nombres. Par exemple, la représentation décimale habituelle des nombres entiers donne à chaque nombre entier non nul une représentation unique en tant que séquence finie de chiffres, en commençant par un chiffre non nul. Cependant, lorsque la représentation décimale est utilisée pour les nombres rationnels ou réels, ces nombres en général ont un nombre infini de représentations, par exemple 2.31 peuvent également être écrits comme 2.310, 2.3100000, 2.309999999 ..., etc., tous ayant la Même sens, à l'exception de certains contextes scientifiques et autres où une plus grande précision est impliquée par un plus grand nombre de chiffres montrés.
