Oligomère
En chimie, un oligomère est un complexe moléculaire qui se compose de quelques unités monomères, contrairement à un polymère qui, du moins en principe, est constitué d'un nombre presque illimité de monomères. Les dimères, les trimères et les tétramères sont, par exemple, des oligomères composés respectivement de deux, trois et quatre monomères. Dans le cadre de la biochimie, un oligomère est habituellement appelé complexe macromoléculaire formé par une liaison non covalente de quelques macromolécules comme les protéines ou les acides nucléiques. Dans ce sens, un homo-oligomère serait formé par quelques molécules identiques et, par contre, un hétéro-oligomère serait constitué de trois macromolécules différentes. Le collagène est un exemple de protéine homo-oligomère qui se compose de trois chaînes protéiques identiques. Le terme multimer est utilisé avec une signification similaire à celle de l'oligomère dans le contexte des protéines.
