L'ovipositeur est un organe utilisé par certains animaux pour l'oviposition, c'est-à-dire la ponte d'œufs. Aucun de ces exemples n'est tout aussi remarquable que le genre de guêpe Megarhyssa, dont les femelles ont un ovipositor mince de plusieurs pouces de long qui sert à forer dans le bois des troncs d'arbres. Ces espèces sont parasites dans le stade larvaire sur les larves des guêpes de corneille, d'où l'œuf doit être déposé directement dans le corps de l'hôte lorsqu'il se nourrit. La piqûre d'Hymenoptera est également un ovipositeur, dans ce cas hautement modifié et associé à des glandes venelles qui sont utilisées pour paralyser les proies.
