Dans la grammaire, une partie de la parole est une catégorie linguistique de mots, qui est généralement définie par le comportement syntaxique ou morphologique de l'élément lexical en question. Les catégories linguistiques communes incluent le nom et le verbe, entre autres. Il existe des classes de mots ouverts, qui acquièrent constamment de nouveaux membres, et des cours de mots fermés, qui acquièrent de nouveaux membres peu fréquent si c'est du tout. Presque toutes les langues possèdent le nom et le verbe des catégories lexicales, mais au-delà de celles-ci, il existe des variations importantes dans différentes langues.
