Phénolphtaléine
Phénolphtaléine / ˌfiːnɒlfθeɪliːn / est un composé chimique de formule C20H14O4 et est souvent écrit comme "HIn" ou "phph" en notation abrégée. Souvent utilisé dans les titrages, il devient incolore dans les solutions acides et le rose dans les solutions de base. Si la concentration de l'indicateur est particulièrement forte, elle peut paraître violette. Dans les solutions fortement basiques, la couleur rose de la phénolphtaléine subit une réaction de décoloration plutôt lente et devient complètement incolore au-dessus de 13,0 pH. La molécule a quatre formes: la réaction de décoloration plutôt lente qui produit l'ion InOH3 incolore est parfois utilisée dans les classes pour l'étude de la cinétique de la réaction. La phénolphtaléine est insoluble dans l'eau et est habituellement dissoute dans des alcools pour une utilisation dans des expériences. C'est un acide faible, qui peut perdre des ions H + en solution. La molécule de phénolphtaléine est incolore, cependant, l'ion phénolphtaléine est rose. Lorsqu'une base est ajoutée à la phénolphtaléine, l'équilibre des ions ions de la molécule se déplace vers la droite, entraînant une plus grande ionisation lorsque les ions H + sont éliminés. Ceci est prévu par le principe de Le Chatelier.
