Histoire post-classique
L'histoire post-classique est la période qui a immédiatement suivi l'histoire ancienne. Selon le continent, l'ère tombe généralement entre les années 200-600 et AD 1200-1500. Les principales civilisations classiques de l'époque sont la Chine Han, l'Empire romain occidental, l'Empire Gupta et l'Empire Sasanien. L'ère post-classique a été suivie par l'ère moderne au début et constitue la période intermédiaire dans une division à trois périodes de l'histoire du monde: ancienne, post-classique et moderne. On pense que l'ère se caractérise par des invasions d'Asie centrale, le développement des grandes religions du monde et des réseaux de contacts commerciaux et militaires entre les civilisations. Le nom de cette ère de l'histoire découle de l'antiquité classique de l'Europe. Dans l'histoire européenne, le «post-classique» est synonyme de l'époque médiévale ou du moyen âge, période de l'histoire du 5ème siècle au 15ème siècle. En Europe, la chute de l'Empire romain de l'Ouest a vu le dépeuplement, la déurbanisation et l'apprentissage limité des «Âges sombres», mais a progressivement repris quelque peu sous les institutions du féodalisme et une puissante Église catholique.
